Basic Lists

HTML code provides a way to automatically indent items in lists with bullets (unordered) or automatically incrementing numbers (ordered).

Ordered Lists

<ol>

Place this tag at the start of the text you want to make into an Ordered List (numbered). You can type text after this and it will become the heading of the list.

<li> ... </li>

Place the <li> tag at the start of each item in the list. The items will appear sequentially numbered. You use the </li> tag after each item in the list.

</ol>

Place this tag after the last numbered entry to finish the list.

<ol>
<li>First item in list.</li>
<li>Second item in list.</li>
<li>Last item in list.</li>
</ol>

An ordered list would look like this:

  1. First item in list.
  2. Second item in list.
  3. Last item in list.

Unordered Lists

<ul>

Place this tag at the start of the text you want to make in to an Unordered List (un-numbered) with bullets. You can type text after this and it will become the heading of the list.

<li> ... </li>

Place the <li> tag at the start of each item in the list. The items will appear indented with a bullet. You can use the </li> tag after each item in the list.

</ul>

Place this tag after the last entry to finish the list.

<ul>
<li>First item in list.</li>
<li>Second item in list.</li>
<li>Last item in list.</li>
</ul>

An unordered list would look like this:

  • First item in list.
  • Second item in list.
  • Last item in list.
  • You can change the appearance of Ordered and Unordered lists by adding a little extra HTML code.
